What is the difference between embroidery and printing?
Embroidery is the application of thread to an item in the form of a logo, whereas printing uses the application of ink. Embroidery is generally longer-lasting than printing and will withstand many washes, which is why it is a frequent choice for school uniforms. The inks used in printing can crack and fade over time, but printing is often cheaper for very large logos with only a few colours.
How do you convert my logo into embroidery?
Through a process called digitising (or digitizing), whereby the image of your logo is converted piece by piece into stitchable objects, then finished with borders to make it look good. This is then saved into a format that embroidery machines can interpret.
How do I choose an embroiderer?
As with any business, look for an embroiderer with experience who has been operating successfully for some time. Always ask if they have an in-house digitiser as that affects the quality of the embroidery. Ask if they use colourfast threads and hypo-allergenic backings. And of course choose someone you feel comfortable with and confident that they know what they are doing.
Do I have to supply the items to be embroidered?
You don’t have to, you can choose from our wide selection of uniforms and we can provide them for you, or you can provide your own if you prefer.
How do I choose my uniform items?
We recommend that you start by thinking about what you uniforms will go through and what they are required for. Do they need to be washed often, or provide sun protection, or keep people cool for instance? Then think about the types of items you might need and which complement each other, such as polo shirts with matching caps, or aprons with matching shirts. Go to our Uniform Stockists page and browse these items, choosing a colour and fabric that you like and that will complement your logo. If you need any help or advise please contact us, that’s what we’re here for!
How much does it cost?
Our embroidery prices are based on the number of stitches in the logo and the quantity to be embroidered. We need to see an image of your logo and to know how big you want it to be in order to provide you with an accurate price. Uniforms supplied by us are priced based on the type of item and the quantity required. Use our quotation page or call us to receive a price.
What can and can’t be embroidered?
Almost any garment, hat, cap or fabric can be embroidered. Check out our Embroidery Service page to see a selection of things that we embroider. The only restriction is that items must fit into an embroidery frame and be able to be pierced with a needle, therefore the maximum thickness of any item for embroidery is approximately 1cm. We have embroidered shirts, car mats, horse blankets, doonas and more!
What is the maximum size that my logo can be?
The maximum size for embroidery is about 30cm wide by 20cm tall, subject to the size of the garment. On caps it can be up to 55mm high.
How long does it take?
Generally about 5-10 working days for uniform supply or 5 working days for embroidery only, though urgent orders can be accommodated on request.
